Older Man Learning
« on: May 31, 2013, 08:59:00 PM »
I am 58 and have Diabetes. I quite shooting about 2 years ago. I took all my bows which have gotten to heavy for me to Baltimore to sell. At the shoot I remembered how much I love shooting and decided to get a lighter bow. I also decided to go to Bob Wesley's shooting school. While there using his bows I learned that a 30# bow was the most comfortable to shoot. You will be able to develop better habits and improve your shooting with a lighter bow. Shoot any bow you like but start with a lite one and you will be so much more happy.

Good For You Ed! I'm 57 and feel the same way. Have this darn condition in my fingers and need to drop down in draw weight also. Never gonna give up trad archery, ever. Just gonna sell what I have and buy lighter stuff!

You young pups!  :bigsmyl:  Yep, I know the need to drop down in bow weight as well as I near my 70th birthday.  Funny how your body can be that old but you're still a kid inside when you pick up a bow!

We have a gentalman in our club in his 80's, still shooting, somewhere between 25 and 35 lbs with his recurve, he's been bowhunting likely 70 years, might still be, turkey hunts every spring, think he uses a compound for hunting these days, but I've only ever seen shoot traditional.....keep it going.....

I had to check out this thread because my wife says those 3 words are NOT possible.  I guess she is finally wrong.  I'm glad to hear you have found the proper weight for you.  Your never to old to learn how fun Longbows and Recurves are.

I am 65 and shoot a 30lb ILf because  of shoulder problems. Do not think a light weight bow can not be shot in competition. This weekend at Howard Hill I shot a 235 out of possible 250. Get the right arrows and you can be competitive.
