New Side Quivers (Need Some Help!)
« on: June 03, 2013, 01:32:00 PM »
I have a couple of side quivers that I finished. You can find them in the Classifieds. They are fully lined both the pocket and the main body. They have a pencil holder and a snap to carry a tab. Behind the pocket is a spot to slide your score card. Quality Herman Oak Veg-tan that is oiled and a Lacquer finish to provide years before even needing any leather care. For those of you who know me the quality is outstanding for those of you who may not you wont be disappointed. I will be building more but for know I just have these for sale. I have more leather on the way and hope to have more in a few weeks.

Thanks to all who bid up the sheath for the kids!

Hey guys I just need some input on these side quivers. With anything I do I use the best materials at hand I try and use all US raw products. There are only two tanneries left in the states and I use Herman Oak. Then after I chose the best materials I take the time to figure it out and build so it not only works but will hold up hopefully for generations.

My question is this. Have I hit the threshold for what most of you guys will pay? When I set out to build these I kind of thought they may be more than what people are willing to pay. That is one of the main reasons I have stayed away from back quivers with the amount of time and the amount of leather it takes to build them I did not think that it would be profitable.

This may be a loaded question that gets me guys saying if they were $125 dollars they would buy one. LOL But they are not but I do price my stuff so I can sell wholesale and maybe this item will not be able to do that. So lets see what you have to say. I figured the tooled one at $359 and the standard at $299. Is that more than what the majority would spend?

Thanks Scott

Honestly.....???

I this days economy, I'd say probly yes.

However... If I DID have the money, and especialy if I did alot of target/3-D shooting... I would spend it in a HEARTBEAT!!!!! Certainly a well made quiver & as far as looks go... It's a SHOWSTOPPER!!!!! Stunningly BEAUTIFUL & built to last a lifetime!!!

As for me, I have a good job. But, after a nasty divorce, and getting custody of my son & the house... I have a mortgage, bills, and a kid to feed, with only 1 income. If we get to go to a shoot, I'll probly be wearing the new Side Stalker quiver, that I won on the St. Jude's Auction. The $90 broke me... But, what the heck??? It's for the kids!!!!!
I only shoot WOOD arrows... My kid makes them, fast as I can break them!

There is a fine line between Hunting, & Sitting there looking Stupid...

May The Great Spirit Guide Your Arrows..... Happy Hunting!!!

The price would be a deterrent for me.  It absolutely looks to be worth every penny of your asking price, however at this stage of my life with other responsibilities I couldn't justify spending $300 on a hip quiver.  I don't believe either that you should lower your cost or your standards because of that.  It would make a hell of a heirloom to be passed down!

While I am sure you can justify the price, I can't justify paying that much for a range quiver.  Don't doubt the quality, just a lot of money.  Maybe around $200, but that would even be pushing what I would pay.

Think it all depends on if "the buyer" really uses that style and enjoys a quality product.

For example i've got a good handfull of Filson stuff that as we all know is not the cheapest stuff but the stuff I got i really use and have no problem paying cause I like it, use it, and it lasts.
But then there is some Filson stuff that i would like to have, mostly their duffle bags and such. But I won't pay that much for it cause I would not use it enough and i already either have or can buy something similar that cost less that would still hold up to what little I would use it.

I like nice stuff and I would pay that much for one. I'm single though and could tell that a lot of people could not pay that much. I've looked at other leather sites for nice products and have to say your products look much better and are better priced. I don't know how you even price them the way you do.

I just now read German Dog's post. I agree with what he said, I to have Filson stuff. The thing with good quality stuff is that it lasts forever. I'm still using certain things after 20 years and those quivers look like they would last a life time and only get better looking with years of use.

Scott - you know I love your stuff, and really appreciate the extremely high quality materials and workmanship in everything you build, but yes, this is more than I would pay for a side quiver.  It's a shame too as I was really drooling over the pic of the one you built for Rod.  I have no doubt that you'll sell some, just probably not as many as you'd hoped for in this day and age.  As always....Good luck!

Thanks guys it all helps! I figured when I got in to this I would have to figure out what people would pay for and I always felt I wanted to build the best. I have been drawn to quality since I was a little kid. My Dad used to joke that I always picked the best and I could find flaws in stuff and be unsatisfied. He Called the flaws fly Sh@!. LOL One thing is whether it is a tab or $500.00 inlay Bowie sheath your getting your moneys worth!

I have never been a rich man but I have thrown junk away after some hard use. There are things that I could not afford at first but saved for it
and will never have to replace it again. Its all about priorities. But I will say this I have some great customers on this site! Thanks Scott

I generally will spend a lot of money on something when I know it is quality and when I know I'll use it for a long time. Wool clothing mentioned above is a good example. A custom bow is a good example.

If I shot 3D, I'd spend the money for a quiver of this caliber. Thats says a lot, because I'm a cheapskate about most things.

For the guy who would spend 5K on a entry level SxS or 20K on a Win Mod 21 then you're in the price range.

For a guy buying bows and arrows to supplement food on the table you're looking at $50 to $100 max.

I personally know what goes into leatherwork. The quality is there Scott, but the market is not with you. I would rate your work as museum quality and it's certainly worth every penny.

Maybe drop to a different leather?

Those are gorgeous. They are also out of my price range. I hate to say it, because I know you have to make a living, and because I know the work and craftsmanship is worth every penny.

I would be happy to pay for a heirloom product which I believe yours are. That said it would have to be something I really wanted and used often  I would just save up to purchase.  Love your work-

Scott - You do awesome work and I've been ogling your arm guard and knife sheaths for a long time (and now this quiver). However, they are more than I'm willing to spend.

I certainly understand the price given all the tooling.  I'm no leathersmith, but I recently made my kids a couple of back quivers.  They are pretty plain, but with the cost of materials and the number of hours I had in making them, it made me realize how justifiable your prices are.

You make great stuff and one of these days I will treat myself.
