Glove to Tab transition woes.....

I am trying to make the switch from glove to tab  (shooting three-under as with the glove).

What I have noticed is when anchoring at the corner of my mouth, all I sense is a mouthful of tab leather.

This make finding anchor difficult and repeating the same anchor shot after shot impossible.

It is very uncomfortable to say the least.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Three words - To much tab.

It's to long from front to back.
Trim it off if you can.

Trim it shorter than your fingers by about 1/4" then you'll feel your finger not leather,

BowDiddle is right. Trim it a bit. That said, when I use a tab, I have to sorta drive home the middle finger to the corner of my mouth. I get what you are saying....not as direct feeling as your glove.

Trim it up, but realize the "feel" of your anchor will change.

When I'm done trimming, I still have full finger protection, but I never feel the tab on my face. All I feel are my finger tips.

Lots of folks who shoot split finger & hit their nose, often think it is the string, when in reality it is their tab that is to large.

bowdiddle is right. I have used a tab for years and find if you play with cutting it to fit you will find you don't need a lot of tab to protect your fingers. When you get used to a good fitting tab you will really enjoy the outcome. I can't imagine using a glove anymore.

I agree that a smaller tab may help.  I made the change this summer and shooting with a glove is like shooting with a boot on my hand now.

I guess I was lucky. When I changed from glove to tab, it was simply a matter of taking one off and putting the other on with no real time period of getting used to a different sensation.  When I draw, I simply feel pressure on the corner of my mouth (not the actual contact of a distinct finger) and know my draw is in the right place. I usually don't need to trim my tabs at all but am careful not to buy one that is especially large. I don't foresee me ever going back to a glove as the tab is so convenient.

I'm curious why you're making the switch from the glove.

When wearing the tab, and you have your fingers wrapped around the string, the tab should just cover the end of the fingers. Which means when your wearing the tab and you don't have your fingers wrapped around the string and you hand is open, your fingers should extend way passed the end of the tab.

P.S. Greygoose, a tab makes for a smoother release, and a Bateman tab makes for a really smoother release.

I use a glove but a buddy of mine who shoots tab and competes, man his is trimmed down next to nothing, just enough to protect and that's it.  They usually come with way to much material.  cut it!!

And don't be afraid to "thin down" your tab so you can really feel the string.

I certainly don't know the rules for Olympic shooting...and every shooter uses a tab, not a glove.

Glad this post came up, I was thinking about trying out a tab this summer since I need a new glove anyway....
