Black Bear outfitter...?
« on: June 10, 2013, 06:11:00 PM »
G'day guys,

Just wanted to ask those in the know about hunting black bear, spot and stalk style please.

I have always wanted to hunt bear ( ill start with black bear first and see later down the track if my bank account will allow grizzly) ... And was thinking of BC up in Canada.

I am looking for an outfitter who understands Bowhunters, more so Trad Bowhunters. So... Any tips on what is the best time of year to hunt these guys etc.

Cheers,

ak.

Al, you should talk to Michael Schneider (United Guide and Outfitter) in BC.  He has a good spring bear hunt, spot and stalk.  I have not hunted bears with Michael, but have hunted moose there twice.  He is very professional and takes his business seriously, he also hunts with a longbow and has taken plenty of traditional bowhunters.

best of luck!

I looked at both of the listed guiding operations and it had answered the question I had of does any one ever stalk bear on foot, versus sitting in a stand over bait.

You may want to look at some of the past articles in Traditional Bowhunter Magazine. Don Thomas has hunted with a guy named Jeff Landis??? that Don wrote an article about hunting with at his camp and this guide also wrote an article or two for the magazine. He's a traditional bow hunter. I think he also has Grizzlies in his area, so if you like the black bear hunt you may have an in for future grizzly hunt.

Ok... So far I have done some homework on Mr Lander and his operation and I like what I see thus far. Has anyone else got any reccomendations or hunted up there in BC with Jeff?

I'd like to hang out for a really biggin... Colour phase would be even better. But, to simply spot and stalk black bears in the wilderness is a dream hunt.
