Need Aluminum Arrow Advice!
« on: June 20, 2013, 11:49:00 PM »
Want to shoot some aluminum arrows out of my coming '72 Kodiak Hunter. Don't know which ones so, here's the stats. Gonna shoot off the shelf with a match stick under the rest for less shelf contact.

Kodiak Hunter - 60"
Draw - 45# @ 28"
My Draw - 28.5"
Broadhead - 125gr Muzzy Phantom
String - B-55 dacron

So, what shaft and what length to cut?

Thanks for all in advance.

I would go with a 1916 with a 125 gr. head.

Possibly a 2016 cut to 29 as well

Yes but, cut to what length? I need to know how long they need to be with that 125gr head.

Easy to make them shorter. Arrow stretchers are hard to find. I've played with 2117s with heavy heads, and 2018s, 2016s and 1916s with progressively lighter heads. Mine usually end up 30 - 30.5". I wouldn't cut them any shorter until tuning says you have to.

I'd start with a 30", 2016 (500).  Might have to trim just a smidge or go up to 145 but should be real close.

Your specs and mine are almost the same, I shoot 2016 full length with 125gr up front, I draw 29+". I was just out shooting my 67' K-Hunter and they flew great! Worst case you may fool around with point weight.

Right for my Grizzly 45@ 28" I draw around 27.5 I cut my 1916's to 28.75 with a 145 gr. head I would start at 29" with a 125 and see how that goes.

Given your parameters I bet a 2016 cut at 29.5 will give you great arrow flight.  The 2016 is a very versatile shaft.
