Super Ghost vs. MojoStik .... Opinions?
« on: June 25, 2013, 09:19:00 AM »
I've always loved the look and ambiance of 50's style recurves, particularly the Super Ghost, MojoStik and Jim Reynolds Ramhorn (if I could ever find one). Anyhow, I've never had the pleasure to handle any of them and was wondering if any of you folks that may have owned or shot both the Super Ghost and MojoStik could comment on your experience pro's/con's, likes / dislikes etc. of each.

Having not handled them It's really a toss up for me at this point. I like a bit more of a "recurve type grip", which both bowyers offer. I also like a 56" - 58" bow which both bowyers offer, MojoStik & SG respectively. Thanks in advance for any input you may have to offer.

Bill,

I have owned both a super ghost and a mojostik, but have shifted to longbows and don't own either now.

Both were good shooters, and I liked the grip on both.  I do think that the fit and finish on the Great Northern is better.  GN makes really fine bows.  And I especially like the GN Critter Gitter.

Good luck.

I have owned 2 mojostiks. The first one I had custom made and loved the grip and that bow shot awesome. It came delaminated and ruined. JD offered a good deal on a new one for me, but had to fund other things at the time. The 2nd one I bought used and it shot great too, but I did not like the grip and sold it. I will order a new one (maybe this year). I have no experience with the GN super ghost other than it carries a great reputation also..

I own two 56" Mojostiks. They are excellent shooters, smooth drawing and quiet.I will agree about the finish.

A couple I really want to try are the Toelke Chinook and the Kota Killum.I hear a lot of good stuff about them.

Can't go wrong with a G.N. Ghost!!

Appreciate the info JimB,thanks. Can you tell me which style grip you have on the bow in this pic? Looks like J.D.'s "Normal grip", but a little hard to tell from the pic.
Thanks,
YB

I have a 60" MojoStik that's marked 53# @ 31" and it's about 47# at my 29". It will be my hunting bow this year. Mine's hinged and the grip is similar to Yankee Bill's above. Feels really good to me. Bought it used with rattlesnake skins that are a bit faded, but make great camo.

I have shot both and owned a couple of JD's bows.  I would like another.  I think his bows are nicer shooting and quiet.  I shot a 56" with 29" draw. It is the winner hands down for me if you go 56". I think you get a lot for the money in custom woods and options.  I like the classic grip.

Appreciate the info guys. I sure wish I was closer to MI, it would be nice to be able to go by JD's shop and try his different grips as it's hard to decide by the pics. I'm pretty sure I'd like the normal grip better, but it would be nice to be able to compare it to the Classic.

Thanks again for the info.
