I was tuning a center shot recurve today.. In fact, I'm always messing with equipment it seems, not a good thing !!! Anyway I used various thickness of leather for the "sideplate" trying to get it in the proper position for the arrow spine I was using.. I also was using a piece of velcro over the leather, on the sideplate.. I got close but wasn't quite there. Got out some masking tape and stuck 4 layers together and cut a strip about 1/4" x 1" long and stuck it over the leather strip and then reapplied the velcro.. Got closer to a perfect baseshaft flight and impact. Went through this procedure another time or two and got the bareshaft flying and hitting perfectly.. I'm sure this practice or something like it is old as the hills but it allows you to build out your sideplate a few thousandths at a time until you're right where you want to be.. Thought I'd throw it out there for some of the guys that are as consumed with perfect arrow flight as I am...
