Centershot and shooting off the shelf

My new riser is cut 3/16 past center. Is there an advantage/ disadvantage in shooting a riser off the shelf that is cut past center? Should I build up the side plate to bring the arrow to center ?

Shooting off the shelf with a riser cut 3/16" past center can be a real benefit.
As a rule, I have found that I can shoot a little heavier spined arrow.
Whether you would need to build out the side plate would depend on what spine you are shooting.

And also the diameter of your arrows. If you are shooting super skinny arrows, the center of the arrow may actually be lying inside the centerline of the bow.  With a finger release, you want the arrow lying slightly outside of center.  With the normal thickness of a side plate, you're going to be okay with wood  or aluminum arrows, and all but the skinniest carbon arrows.

I also think you can shoot a wider variety of spined arrows.

I build them up with leather or furniture pads so the right side of the arrow lines up with the left side of the string. They fly good that way.
