2114's wow!
« on: July 12, 2013, 08:07:00 PM »
I've been getting ready for a archery elk hunt, and I'm shooting a Thunderhorn Heartstopper thats 54#'s @28 inches. I've been shooting either 2018's or 2016's with a 150 grain Stinger broadhead. Well a buddy of mine came over with a bunch of arrows that he is trying out and I shot a couple of 2114's and wow they flew like a "dart". Whats your opinion of these shafts? I weighed them with the Stinger on the end and they weigh in at about 509 grains. Anyone else shooting them? Thanks

Me? I'd stay with the weight of the 2018.

I would also stick with the 2018's if they fly good for you . A much more durable shaft in my mind.

I agree with Westbrook.  IF your 2018s are flying well for you, the extra weight (penetration) and thicker side wall (durability) will make them a better shaft for hunting.  The 2114 is a GREAT shaft that I use routinely as a substitute for a 2016 (essentially interchangeable for me).  The thinner side wall though makes 2114s a little more prone to damage.

I love the very versatile 2114.  I've found it good for bows in the 45-55# range, and besides, it was a favorite of the great Jack Howard.

However, an equally performing/flying 2018 or 2016 would be my first choice, but that decision is not meant to lessen the greatness of the 2114.

Blackhawk is right. Jack Howard was a strong promoter of 2114s. My opinion is to shoot the shaft that flies best for you. I seriously doubt that 2018s or 2016s will kill an elk any deader than a 2114.

I still have a bunch of 2114's...mostly Autumn Orange. Great shaft but I pretty much shoot 2016/GG II's anymore
