Went out tonight with the cool down to check on the critters. Good night for it. The skeets were crazy!

You have food plots on public land?

VTer, the Michigan DNR does plant some agriculture on select public lands around the state.  I'm not sure if this is one of them but I think there are some state planted fields in Arwin's area.

This year it's soybeans. The DNR used to plant corn in this area but haven't done so in a few years.

Soybeans are good for summer scouting to let you know whats around, but come October they seem to be useless, LOL!

The way I understand it is farmers will normally alternate between corn and soy beans every 3-4 years.  It has something to do with keeping the soil neutral but I could be way off on that.

That is exciting.  Only problem I encountered was driving 2 hrs to scout MD's E. Shore, had deer patterned...and showed up opening day to find 27 others signed in on a 30 max sign up bit of land!

Needless to say, those deer abandoned their "pattern" with all that intrusion. Never saw another hunter ONCE in 2 mos of driving down to watch them come out to feed, etc...

Ouch.

Sure does stir the blood though, doesn't it...especially when they do that prance thing and come closer to see...they learn quick to give that move up around here come the opener! LOL

its refreshing and very nice to watch a video that doesn't have some banjo music or the score from "Jaws" pounding in the background

I sure wish that deer acted like that during the season! Cool video!

The rotation of corn and beans IS for the soil...  soybeans put nitrogen into the soil and corn will deplete it.  If the soil is naturally low in nitrogen, a couple years of planting the beans will compound levels and make the corn do better.
