Cap Painting
« on: July 25, 2013, 02:26:00 PM »
I am going to try spray painting a cap on my wood arrow shafts. I like the 3 rivers gasket lacquer clear, just wondering what is the best way to do this. What type of paint and or primer, and should I rough up the lacquer coating with steel wool or sandpaper?

Thanks in advance

I spray carbons for my son. I just can not get carbon to dip right. Any way I use Testors RC car paint. It is a Laq. and the gasket Laq. goes over it fine without roughing it. Yes, the paint works on wood as well. I made up some baby blue cap arrows for the wife. She picked the blue.
I am sure some others have used other products so hopefully they will chime in.

I shoot a flat white over the clear, then shoot my cap color over that when dry. Quality gloss stuff. The flat white makes the top color "pop".

Same as wooddamon1. Scuff that clear with Scotchbrite and wipe down with denatured alcohol before spraying.

On woodies I use rustoleum spray paint professional choice when available in my colors for caps, minwax stain, sometimes spray over stained shaft sometimes over bare wood. Also use master choice paints to crest then use an alternative of the massey finish over all epoxy and denatured alcohol finish. No problems with any of the above working together.
