self bows

been wanting shoot a selfbow. i'm not much of a craftsman so i though i would buy one. any ideas? b-dog

You can look at the sponsors list and find some folks who sell selfbows.

Off the top o my head,Raptor archery and Pine Hollow longbows are two good uns.

Dryad still makes a selfbow, add them to the list of sponsors.  It'd be hard to go wrong with any of them.

I just ordered one from Rudder bows - very inexpensive.  I don't know how they shoot but I've heard many good things about Rudder.

I would check with Mike Westvang (Dryad Bows), John Scifres, Bob Barnes and Eric Krewson (all tradgang members). They will all make you an osage bow which will last your lifetime. I think there is also one in the classifieds right now.

Eric Krewson is an associate sponsor on Trad Gang, and makes very fine osage selfbows. I own three of them and they are truly fine examples of what can be done in the hands of a skilled, patient bowyer. None finer.

thanks Mickey...  :)   Don't forget that dang Yancey makes a fine bow...when he stays home from huntin' long enough.   :)   Eric also makes a fine bow as does John...and then there's Mickey (the Ferret)...bow maker for sure.

I have'nt shot one.But I know there is some serios craftsmanship in Eric's bows.Seen one at a ASTB shoot.Also a very nice guy.tradrick

I made a Bamboo osage and an osage selfbow for a friend who injured his shoulder severely enough to put and end to his stickbow shooting. He had barely broken in both bows when he was hurt. He is interested in selling his bows at a pretty good discount over what he paid for them. I can put you in touch with him. Checking my log book, the bamboo osage is R/H 64", 53#@28" tillered for split finger, The osage bow is 52#@28, R/H and tillered for split finger as well, really nice bows.

I am taking a little break from bow building until the end of the year. I am doing a scratch build on a flintlock rifle that is really time consuming because I have never attempted such a project before and there is a lot of learning new tools and techniques along the way.
