How can I increase broadhead 50 grains??

Hey all,

I have my arrows flying great with a 300grn field point on them.

If I dont change to wood arrows this season I would like to stick with the broadheads that I currently have.

The broadheads are the 250 grain 2 or 3 blade VPA.
I have some of each. Any suggestions on how to increase them or the front of the arrow by 50 grains?

Change the insert for a heavier insert?
Shoot the 300 grs VPAs? I have 3 300grs VPAs 2 blades I would trade for 3 250 VPAs 3 blades. PM me if interested.

I thought about the insert but am not sure how to get the current ones out. They are epoxied in.

I need to make sure I have 3 new ones, if so I will make that trade.

You might want to try shooting your current broadheads.  My guess is they'll shoot just fine.

Jason, This is why I use the low temp melt glue from Big Jim.
It make changing insert a breeze.

The epoxy should let loose with heat.  Hold the broadhead with pliers and heat the screw portion of the insert (only) with a torch.  Get the isert hot enough to melt the glue.

The epoxy I use is good up to 200 degrees Celsius. That's almost 400 degrees F. That sure wouldn't do the carbon shaft any good especially since you would most likely go a little over before the epoxy let loose. I'm inclined to consider epoxied inserts as permanent.

Tuffhead's double footing will get you 35 grains up front. Make your own for weight customization. You will get tougher elk arrows as a bonus. I know you asked for 50 grains but you will get darn close.

Right, heat will loosen the epoxy.  But on a carbon shaft you can't heat the shaft itself.  I screw in a field point and use a torch to apply heat to the point.  It will transfer plenty of heat to the insert to break the epoxy bond.  Just go slow so you don't overheat and ruin the carbon.

Why not pull the knock out and insert a weight with a glob of epoxy on it. I did this with a brass screw head first.

Ah, I guess I was thinking insert in a broadhead, not the one in the arrow.  Yup, still doable, just as Whip described.  Go easy and it will still work.  Heat, twist with pliers, when it comes out, cool the arrow to stop the heat.

You can do it.
