Kurve shooters
« on: August 01, 2013, 07:38:00 PM »
I recently acquired a Kohanna Kurve and it is a fantastic bow. I would say it is the smoothest recurve I have owned as of yet. The craftsmanship is very nice and the grip is perfect for me. I have however been having fits trying to get good, consistent, arrow flight. Some arrows will fly well and then, for no apparent reason three will visibly kick out on release or have a wobble, going down range. I have paper tuned as well as bare shaft tuned and (I'm not making this up) have actually had results that were backward. In other words, when I could not seem to correct the bad flight I did the opposite of what you are supposed to do and it worked. I even called the bowyer, Bob Rousselo, who spent several minutes with me on the phone, just a fantastic guy. I shoot Gold Tips and have been told that a 3555 with about 200gr up front would be about right. That seems very week to me and inconsistent with the Gold Tip arrow chart. The bow is 50@28 and I draw 28. My arrows are cut 29" and 30" and I am shooting a fast flight string. Believe it or not, I shoot this thing dead nuts, even when I have terrible arrow flight. It really is driving me crazy though. Any recommendations?

I have to agree and with the 29" arrows you will need even a bit more point weight. Even on the 30" ones I may try 225 to start with and go from there. Good advise from someone and as I said try a bit more point weight first. Shawn

Shawn,
You agree with using 3555s with more weight up front?
Thanks
Dennis

I had a Kurve and shot 3555's with about 175-200 up front cut to 30.5 inches.

If some are flying good and others not, I'd look for something in your form to be the answer.  A little more point weight probably wouldn't hurt, as Shawn suggests, but those arrows should shoot for you as they are.

I shot 29.5" Gold Tip Trads with 100 gr inserts and 125 gr points through paper with that bow and it showed slight tail left indicating slightly weak spine but sometimes would shoot bullet holes.  I am a new shooter so much of that could be contributed to a lack of consistent form. I traded the Kurve before I made any adjustments to the bow or arrows.

Don't know if this helps or not because I don't think I was pulling a full 28" of draw even though that is a smooth drawing 50 lb recurve.

Dennis.....I forgot to mention 3555 spined arrows.  Yeah I like this Hill bow.  It sure is different and I am building up a little strength as I am now drawing within an inch of my normal draw with it and it sure is whisper quiet.

Let me chime in here. I have to agree with you 100% about Bob being a Fantastic Guy.    He makes a bow the average working guy can afford. They are great bows.   :archer:

You almost have the exact same arrow set up as me, I draw around 27" I shoot 3555's cut to 29" with 225 grains up front and they fly like darts from my bows.  Maybe something in your release?  I've had 5575s do what you're talking about and turned the cock feather into the riser and had that correct the kick off the bow.
Too many bows to list, and so many more I want to try!  Keep the wind in your face, and your broadheads sharp.
