Centaur Battle Axe
« on: August 08, 2013, 07:34:00 AM »
hey everyone, previously I used pretty much a heavy carbon with many boradheads out of my recurves but this year I want to go back to longbow so I need to check on someheads and what you think.

my setup will be a 50@27 Baraga OR 50@27 Morning Star with around a 500gr minimum to 550gr max weight arrow..

I want to shoot 160 ACE broadheads with these bows and wooden arrows but I have Centaur Battle Axe and Big Game Left Bevel heads brandnew factory edge.  I'm wondering what you guys think and shoot I shoot these or just stick with the double bevel ace's that I think will be alot sharper.  the centars are hard to sharpen and have that flat edge point.

thanks for any opinions..

I'll be curious to hear as well.  I will be shooting the Big Game left bevel heads this fall.  There is enough endorsement on Jim's site but always fun to hear more.

I have developed some creative ways to sharpen the BG heads and have them shaving sharp.  I hone the inside radius of the BH on a 6" PVC pipe cut in half with 400 wet/dry sandpaper wrapped over that outside radius of the pipe.  I finish honing on paper grinder wheel.

You can change the tip configuration on the B-Ax & B-Game heads to that of an Ashby tip.  Bevel on opposite side of tip from the main bevel.  The top BG head has an "Ashby tanto" the bottom is stock from Centaur.

Kris, that's genius! Using the sand paper on the pipe never would have thought about that!

I killed a couple deer a few years ago with a Black Widow pl drawing 47@27. Both were pass throughs with the Centuar head. I think its the one thats 1 3/4 wide. I was using carbons at 560 grains. Blood everywhere trails .RC
