Low brace recurves
« on: August 09, 2013, 12:48:00 PM »
Us short drawing archers need as much powerstroke as we can get. The longer the arrow is on the string through the shot means the better the bow's performance, that's no secret.

Since there are so many bow models and bowyers out there, past and present, there's no way to shoot'm all (the bows, that is). What are some solid performing recurves that have a preference for a lower than usual brace height?

Pics are welcome, of course. Thanks in advance everybody!

Border for sure.  Hex do great at 6.5-6 7/8, the string wraps around the super recurve ends like a cam instead of slapping--  Makes it quieter than many standard recurves.  Great limbs, pounds per inch goes down as you draw making them super smooth with perceived sensation of let off.

Morrisons.  Bob recommends the low end of the brace ranges listed on his index for those wanting to maximize performance, especially with the new Max 1 limbs.  Depending on the combination you can be in the 6-3/4" range.

Martin/Howatt Hunter and Mamba recommended brace is 7-7&3/4",I shoot mine at 7&3/8".Great shooting and underated bows in my opinion.

Borders perform so well you do not need to shoot them at those low brace heights. Low braceheight bows are critical of a perfect release. I would much rather sacrifice a bit of speed for better accuracy. Most critters here in North America just need good shot placement, good arrow flight and a sharp broadhead. Shawn

My Dad shot his Super Kodiak with an extremely low brace height. He was a damned good shooter in his day, but almost everyone commented on the low BH.

Eaglewings are recommended at 6 1/2 to 7 1/4 for both top mount and belly mount static tip recurves and will perform very well with good stability and good speed.

Then you probably wouldn't care for my Schulz longbow that's just too sweet braced at 5.9".

Thanks for the responses everyone. Steve, I sent you an email with a few questions.
