I can let you know about Alberta, just 73 miles NW of Edmonton after October 9th!

This is a dream hunt for myself and my best friend. We've never paid a guide before for any hunt. We are hoping it is a good experience. I'm going with the attitude that just being a moose hunter for 7 days will be worth a lot.

I could have hunted Newfoundland for 67% the price ($4,000 vs. $6,000).  However, a good friend spent a week bowhunting NF a couple years ago, and even though the Province has lots of moose, he didn't even see one while hunting.  Also, I'm hoping for a bit bigger bull than would be the average in NF. I know the experiences of others have been better.

I have been to Alaska 12 times since 1990-- shot a bull-- not real big-- back then was 3 BT or 50"  now must be 4 BT or 50"  --  so make sure--
Shot the first bull with  my Jack Howard recurve 58# no problem -- second was with 70#-- 1959-60  grizzly  --  no problem --    third was a bad hit but caught the femoral artery and he only went 60 yards -- all shot with Bear RH  the last one with Bleader Blades --  the other two W/O  IN my experience -- moose do not take hits very well - they don't go far when hit -
There is no cheap way to Alaska -- have thought about Willow Air -- they do Float Trips and are spt have exclusive  areas--  check all outfitters for recomendations- they provide gear --   success rate-- ask Fish and Game -- for population --
Check out drop off services -- do it now - as the good ones get booked
Another one is Prinstine Ventures --   supplies the gear and knows the rivers --  out of fairbanks--   see who will fly you into the Wood River --   my recomendation -- get up high and glass with GOOD Spotting scope-  bino's
Recomendation -- moose are not all that hard to butcher -- just like a big deer --  do not gut unless you are leaving over night -- take a saw and cut out ribs --- you can get the heart and liver then if you want-- saves a mess-
Don't forget license fee-- hotels -- in Alaska not cheap !   Plan extra days coming and going
Antlers - must be cut in half to bring on Airlines- or find a freight outfit  - try Estes Freight -- meat--  bring one cooler for 50 pounds --  if you do a drop off--  get up high -as high as you can--   stay put -- glass willows and timber area-- look for pieces of moose - in warm weathjer they will get up and feed in a 20 yard circle in thick cover -- hunt early and late -- unltess the rut is on--
Bring a call or the coffee can deal--   don't be afraid to call-  I use a lohman  bell type -
the sound carries better than your voice -
I have called in Moose from almost two miles --
INteresting when you are up high to see them come   or stop  them--   wonder how they heard the sound -
Only bring what you need --
OH  Don't forget to wear Wool-- :) )))     WWW.classicsportsman.com  or  www.classicbowman.com
OH also heard New Foundland is good --

I booked my Newfoundland moose hunt thru Bowhunting Safari Consultants,if a guide doesnt produce they dont use him.A friend of mine hunted with the same guide I am using and gave a great reccomendation. Also had a long conversation with Fred Asbell and he spoke well of Newfoundland hunting.Of course it is hunting weather and lots of other factors come into play. Will give a full report when I get home.

Depends on your budget. I dream of one day going to Alaska or New Foundland , but in the mean time I have been hunting Quebec every other year. We drive up and with gas, tags and the lodge we stay at has 35 sq miles of leased land we come in under $1800.00. We do our own cooking with food we bring so I don't count that. I go with a group of rifle hunters even though I bow hunt because I can't find enough guys that want to bowhunt. Both times I went our group has taken several moose
(not me yet) and there is tons of sign and we regularly see and hear moose. One thing to remember in Quebec though is two hunters have to tag a moose ie: your buddy shoots one your done ! I have fallen in love with country that moose inhabit and the small game hunting is unmatched. Where ever you go you will have plenty of memories  . I will be in Canadian bush from Oct 10-19th this year and can't wait.

You can do an Ontario hunt for about 3000.00 plus your food and travel .  they killed a 52" there last year. Can have an update when my brother gets back at the end of the month.
