Took a vacation day so got a four day holiday. Family is with me and we spent the cooler hours of the days finishing up stuff. Did a lot this winter on major stuff for some new stand sites and resurrection of some old ones. Need to set a pop up today for the early antlerless and youth season. Then get some licenses. Just taking a break now. Temps finally dropped off so will be a good work day.
I am usually ready to go and highly wound up for it by mid August having done most of my prep in late summer.
Last year at this time was the worst ever year for me. I had nothing ready and was having one of those years where I wondered if I would even feel like hunting. Didn't need to do much for stand sites so it was not to big a big deal. I shook it off and had the toughest bow season ever. Very slow, but stuck it out and managed to fill the freezer with a lot of work. It one point I kind of thought I would be even more behind and less motivated this year, but I spent more time late winter and spring getting ready than ever before. I think that will be my new way to go. It paid off kind of because one of my hunting properties that was well set up and typically ready to go easy got sold this spring so I needed to have more going on where I put in the work this winter.
Work and family stuff really took up a lot of time last year. Not being ready really impacted my attitude. I learned to do as much as I can as early as possible now so things don't put me so far behind when they pile up in the summer and early fall.
