Who hunts in Gaitors?

I was looking at some wool Gaitors and was wondering who hunts in them and why?

I do in the winter to keep the snow outta my boots! Mine are nylon type material and they do not catch up the burrs, etc.

I use them in Colorado but not here in the south. They're not wool though. I have the Cabela's camo ones.

As for the reason I wear them; In Colorado I wear hiking boots. They are short and I can't stand anything getting down in my boots/ankles. And they help keep my pants dry in the tall grass with an early morning dew on it.

I use the cabelas  gortex ones. I have been using them for about 8 years. They work great over 8 inch boots. Spray em with camp dry every now and then. I tried others wool and different brands but, always went back to the cabelas brand.

I use my King of the Mountain gaitors when there is at least 4" of snow when I'm hunting the Dolly Sods wilderness area here in West Virginia.   Hiking in at least a mile, my gaitors are great when the snow is wet!

I use the nylon camo type from Cabela's to keep the burrs and dew of my wool. Doesn't eliminate all, but it sure keeps them to a minimum.
I would've taken better care of myself,if I'd known I was gonna live this long!

I have waterproof with outside fleece for quietness. They keep my legs warm and dry in high wet grass or snow. They are knee high. Love em./ Only time they are a pain is when I get into beggers lice or burs. Then they are like forever to clean. I have gotten to where I use them only in the mountains because of that.

God bless, Steve

I always wear gaiters but usually just Gore-Tex.  A set of wool is on the list though.

I wear them all the time for the reason's mentioned.

It's always wet here in the Pacific Northwest & Gaiters do help.

I have one pair with a "quiet" outer fabric and another Cabella's Gortex.

I am here in Texas and thought about whether they would be useful down here when chasing hogs.

Aren't these the same things worn by the guys on safari in Africa?

Would they be useful down here in Texas?

Being that u have stick brush and jaggy things down there they would need to be fairly durable. The Kuiu ones are. But idk if ripping through Texas brush how well hey would hold up. But I think they would help to protect you. Other than wool n they can be noisy when going through brush. The Kuiu ones are fairly quiet.

I got a pair this year that are waterproof. One of the best new pieces of gear I got when it's wet out. On a wet day that made all the difference. Plan on using them walking through the tall grass prairie this fall.

When the wool comes out so do the gaiters.  I like them.

I never leave home without them!!! Used for boggy ground, crossing streams, in snow and keeps thorns, biddy bids and hook grass away from you pants. I have the ankle high Stoney creek gators.

I have a pair of Kenetrek gaiters that I do like.  Their "achilles heel"is the fact that they've got about 13 inches of velcro on each one so no taking them off once they're on.  Also makes re-tying your boots more difficult IF you don't like opening velcro while hunting.
