Tie On Leather Tip Protectors
« on: September 24, 2013, 03:09:00 PM »
Anyone know a how-to with pix or video of how to tie on leather tip protectors?

Have done it different ways through the years but  have never been quite satisfied with the way they turned out...

Getting ready to tie another one for this year and was wondering how you guys do so...

Thanx in advance,
Gary

Dont have any pics for you because the bow is long gone but I had one on a Bob Lee recurve that was seal skin. I soaked mine in warm water to get it pliable then laced it on. Its was pretty thin so I actually put the protector on and then put the string on top of the protector. As it dried it drew really tight.I left the bow strung while it dried. That way I could replace the string withought removing my protector. Don't know thick yours is but it worked well. My bow wore it for 3 years and still looked good when I sold it. I know lacing something wet onto a bow may not be the best way but it was the only way I could get one to conform to the tip and stay tight. I have since gone back to a kwikee rubber one because they hold up so much better and seem less bulky.

Thanx Guy, but I was talking about those precut tip protectors from supplies like 3Rivers.

The kind that is already precut with perforated holes and comes with the waxed string.

I guess they are called "Lace Up" tip protectors, but 3RA does not list them anymore... Glad I saved a template...

Sorry, Gary. I thought that may have been the case but wasn't sure.
