Any PICS of H.Hill Deluxe Glove and Others of this Type??
« on: September 28, 2013, 01:12:00 AM »
Hey all,

I like the Hill type gloves and am always on the lookout for the "perfect" glove.  Of course we all know that such a thing doesn't exist, but it sure is fun looking.

Anyway, I hear the Deluxe Glove from Howard Hill archery is a very nice glove but I've never seen one or tried one.  I've seen pics they have on their site, but that isn't a very good pic.

I'd like to see some good pics of this glove and the other BASIC glove that they sell.

I have an old Hill type glove that I really like.  I have been looking for one just like it, but so far haven't been able to find one.  I was told that the guy that made it was the guy that started American Archery before he started that company.  Who knows though.

I also have a Stick-Tite to try and it seems to be pretty good.

Bateman also has a couple that look really interesting.  I'd like to hear what you all think of these gloves.  The only problem is that I shoot a 45 pound bow and I like to feel the string a bit.  These gloves look like they would take forever to break in and I don't know if I would like getting to that point.

So, I'd like to see all Hill type gloves reviewed in this thread.  PICS also please.  I'll take pics of my glove tomorrow and get it posted so maybe someone can tell me about it.  In the meantime, post pics of your gloves of this style and tell about it.  Also tell about the gloves like this that you have tried and didn't care for at all.

Thanks for the help and your time.

This is the Bateman that I am most interested in.  I'd like to hear more about it though.  I wonder how it would feel with my 45 pound bow?  One thing is for sure, it too would take a LONG time to break in and it is VERY EXPENSIVE.

What do you think of it?  Has anyone tried it?

Lastly, one other glove that I would love to have and try is a glove like Fred Bear had.  At one time there was a member here that could help people get one that was absolutely gorgeous.  He said it was made by an Amish guy.  I should've got one back then when I had the chance, but I didn't.
Anyone know anything about these gloves?

I was watching Byron Ferguson shooting on you tube, and he was shooting a glove that looked similar to that one. I got to looking around, and went to his website. I think he shoots one made by Neet. It's the all leather and it's adjustable on the length with holes,he sells it on his website. I might give it a try. It has cordovan tips.

the Howard hill deluxe is a great glove

it will outlast 5 of those meet gloves.

I've got both.

45lbs? I'd just use a single layer deerskin. the hill deluxe has nylon inserts and is suited to heavier bows

I think I shot every tab and glove there is.  I have gone from soft to downright too thick making my own and shooting those made.  I have shot Earl's glove and it is stiff like the old school Hill gloves.  Earl's quality of workmanship is awesome.  Byron Ferguson was shooting his glove for years, not sure about now.  To me the glove is too stiff for my taste.  They do wear in.  With a hill glove I cut the end out more and restitch so I can feel the ends of my fingers.

I am shooting a bigshot buffalo crossover and see no reason to change.  This glove is topshelf.  If you get one, you just have to shoot it awhile and give a chance.

Also the worst thing you can do is let someone else shoot your glove.  They need to form to you, and be stretched to fit your hand.  Call American Leathers and talk to John, worth the money.

I believe I have a HH glove in my "box of stuff". Got it from Steve Turay.  Personally, I don't care for the nylon inserts.  I like to feel my string more than that.  If you're interested in checking it out, let me know.

I don't have pics of all my gloves, but here's a couple of my gloves that show the different techniques on design to change the fit and function.

I rarely shoot bows lighter than 60-pounds, so I prefer heavy leather tips with nylon inserts lined with soft leather.  This is completely unnecessary for me when I'm shooting my light bows, but for my heavier hunting bows, I feel the inserts and lining to be a plus.

The darker glove is of standard stall length with closed tips.  I've modified the glove a bit over the years to tailor the fit, but this design allows for a deep hook and full function of the hand, to include just fitting within the trigger guard of my emergency backup revolver, though just barely enough to function the gun.

The lighter glove is one I'm currently experimenting with due to my large hands.  This glove has slightly longer stalls with modified open tips.  This allows the finger tips to go deeper within the stalls for a better fit with long fingers.  The open tips also aid in a deep hook and allow for a more tactile feel of an anchor (reference) point on a specific tooth.

Such gloves can be made with any combination of open or closed tips with either standard or long stalls.  Hope this helps  :)

Black Widow makes one also and it is thin leather. I have trouble keeping the fingers stalls aligned with my fingers (old style single stall connector) and am always readjusting the stalls after two or three shots. The glove is growing on me though. Their newer ones have double stall straps.

I like thicker more rigid gloves. I shoot their PDQ Super Glove now.

Black Widow is a sponsor as are many other glove suppliers.

Hit the back button again and double posted again. This didn't happen several weeks ago and can't get used to how TG's system is working now. Sorry.

Alexander, yes Byron does shoot with a NEET glove now.  I emailed him from his website and he responded and said it worked just as well for him as the one he had used for years did.  I think it may have been a Bateman, but I'm not sure about that.

Homebru, if it's a MEDIUM, I'd definitely like to try it out.

Yeah I don't think the ones that have the THICK layers and nylon inserts would be good for me since I shoot 45 pounds and don't anticipate going much higher than 50 in the future.
The glove I have right now does have inserts in it and I'd get rid of them if I could.  It also has thick leather for the tips.  It fits great but since it's so old it doesn't stay in place and I am going to have to take it to a boot repair shop and see if they can put a new wrist attachment on it for me.

I'd like to try one of the Hill gloves though just to see how well they fit, feel and work for me.

Thanks all.

Nalajr

p.s. I'll get the pic of my glove on here tomorrow so maybe someone will recognize it.

Oh, one more thing I forgot to ask you guys.

Has anyone used that Hill style glove from Bear?  I've looked at it on their website, but never seen one in person.  It looks like a nice glove without inserts, but I have never read a user review of one.  They are pretty pricey though.

Anyone know anything about this glove?

Thanks
