Great Bend, KS
« on: October 11, 2013, 06:36:00 PM »
Looking to get back to KS.  Moved to TX from Lawrence about 10 years ago.  A job opportunity in Great Bend/Hoisington area has come up.  Heading up next week to meet with the company.  Anyone here from Great Bend or close by that can shed some light on their community?

Thanks, Sam

Bears can attack people- although fewer people have been killed by bears than in all WWI and WWII combined.

Great Bend has a Wallyworld:) and Magnus Broadheads are made there. About all that is noteworthy! There is one guy on here that posts once in a while that lives in Great Bend, can't remember his name. My folks live in Ellinwood 10 miles east, so I'm back there once in a while. Salthawk Archery Club in Hutch was having a traditional only shoot in early April and have open shoots once a month or so and have a fun bunch of trad shooters that attend.

I'm from there and my family still lives there, graduated high school from Hoisington. Can't believe someone mentioned Great Bend having a wally world but forgot to mention Cheyenne Bottoms. Some of the greatest bird watching in the US and some great hunting for waterfowl and big deer all around. There's also the Big Bend archers but I always went to Kingman at the Byron Walker Wildlife Area to their shoots. Lots of trad guys at it and great guys to shoot with.
If you have any questions feel free to PM me.

Just found out I have relatives there that I never met.
This genealogy thing is interesting!

My wife's family is from Larned, About 20 minutes West of Great Bend, a great area with alot of history there,SantaFe Trail, Fort Larned, Pawnee Rock. Not to mention some great Whitetail Deer hunting.
I am headed back in November to hunt with my nephew near Belpre.

Received a great Thanksgiving gift yesterday.  After nearly a two months of interviews and testing my patience, I was offered the above mentioned job in Hoisington.  Its going to be a little bit of a financial sacrifice for my family but my wife and I agree that quality of life outweighs any monetary gain.  We don't have an exact start date yet but it will be around the 1st of the year.  Lots to do with selling our house, finding one in KS, etc.  Minus a little bit of nerves we are excited for a new chapter.
