Anyone make portable natural ground blinds?
« on: October 13, 2013, 07:34:00 PM »
This may be a silly question but I am trying to get some info on making a natural blind that is portable. I know it would be easier to just get some camo cloth and stake it up but I want something actually natural that I can pack up and take to another location. If anyone does this give me some ideas an post some pics please :-)

We use to weave cedar boughs, grass or cattails in woven wire fence and stake them down with a 36X 1/2 bolt that my dad got from scrap. Had a doe come up and eat off of one once. Not sure if thats what you're thinking or not but hope the idea helps

never make a portable out of "natural" materials.
But made a triangle out of camo cloth and pvc that was pretty good.
Also made a awesome set up i used to use out of a dowel, then add big zipties to it and stapple plastic leaves to the zipties and then paint it camo. make 3 and stick them around you as fake bushes. worked great and killed a few deer using them but they only last about a season if you snag them on brush in and out of the woods.
favorite is mini christmas trees you get on clearance or at garage sales.

cut a piece of welded wire fencing used for gardens.  Cut whatever size you feel you want.  Roll it into a tube to carry out there. When you get there spend a couple minutes pushing / weaving marsh grass and similar material into the fence.  Place it and push a few bigger sticks thru it and into the ground.

There you go.  Add more stuff as needed.

Use burlap, spray with a good heavy coat of adhesive, take dirt, twigs and leaves and throw it against the sprayed burlap.  a coat of sealer over it will finish it up.  You can also paint logs near the bottom to similate a fallen tree trunk.  Last, attach some art fall leaves and some ghillie jute to make random color swatches. I also would recommend cutting the burlap in irregular edges rather then a flat straight edge.  I also tear holes to allow light to come through in several areas.

I prefer a three stake system to form a triangle and then sit in the middle with my ghillie.
Everything has a price - the more we accept, the more the cost
