Hey all,

I am down here in Texas so I don't have to deal with cold or wet conditions much.  So I thought about what shoes or boots would make good stalking and hunting shoes.  Somewhere I read that there were some bowhunters that use Converse Chuck Taylor Hi Tops.  I thought that might be a good idea and went to check them out on their website.  It turns out that they have another option other than the traditional Hi Tops.  They have whats called the X-Hi Tops.  They are exactly like the regular Hi Tops except these are probably equal in height to an 8 or 10 inch boot would be.

The actually look like they would work pretty well.  You can customize them on their site and get them in 3 weeks and they are $70.  I tried it out and designed a pair in ALL BLACK and they didn't look too bad.  It seems like they would be a perfect shoe for stalking on soft earth.  The sole is all rubber and the uppers are thick canvas which I would assume that you could make them waterproof if you wanted to.

Anyone ever tried these shoes, the regular Hi Tops or the X-Tra Hi Tops for stalking and hunting or heard about them being used?  I'd like to hear your thoughts and opinions if you know anything about these.

Go to Converse.com and click on MEN and then SHOES.  Just keep looking by selecting VIEW MORE several times until you get to a plain WHITE pair that is really HIGH and then click on them to see what they would look like in your custom setup.

What do you think?  How would they work for hunting in soft, sandy type soils like here in Texas and the other southern states?

I think they would probably work o.k. For about one season. The way the sole is glued on I don't think they would stay waterproof for very long either. I still wear them and they are a great shoe for what they are made for . You could by a pair of the regular high tops and try them though I think they are only about 40$. I just know that mine have never held up well when you get off the pavement on a regular basis. Of course I've had 100$ boots fall apart just as quick and the chucks are dang sure quiet and flexible.

On an elk hunt in AZ, my partner ended up wearing his "Chuck Taylors"  under a pair of the fleece bottom "Sneaky Stalkers".  Worked great.  Go for it..

So far this season I am using Crocs and they have been pretty damn good. they have a model with a thicker sole in camo. That is the one I am using. I use them with thick wool socks.

I've thought about doing the same, but here in central Oklahoma it can get too cold and wet during the fall and winter. That said, I've used them when for spring turkey and they've worked fine. I would just go with a pair from a local department store for $40. One of my students even had a pair that were olive green and camo.

Get some hi-top wrestling shoes instead, great for stalking/quiet!

I took a pair of thick socks and put them on my feet then I sprayed them with spray on rubber. A little messy but I love them.
