I remember 25 years or so ago I had a seat that attached to a Deer Me tree step. Does anybody remember these? It would be  easy to make. Anybody use a seat like this?

I remember them well, I had one.... Nice, compact & versatile back in the day. I have since gone to stands & seats that replace the need.... Fun to look back at where we've been..... :-)

I used mine with a Baker chain on stand, we've come a long way.

I want to try this for a light/simple way to ground hunt.

Had one years ago and have since, like you, thought of fabbing up a couple.  I have some stands that spike in from below and do not have seats.  I have made some chain-on seats that work pretty slick but also have about 50 Deer-Me tree steps so one or two would be convenient.

Deer-Me is long gone, unfortunately.  I love the steps.  Finding a production seat would be near impossible but the dirty auction site might turn one up??  Beyond that they seem easy to make so if you do post some pics of your creation.

I made a prototype this evening, a saw and drill is all that was needed. I'm going to mess with it some and see how it works.

If its what i think you talking about  is it a seat with a wooden base with camo material over a foam pad and you screw a tree step into a tree and it slides onto it. and it also had  a loop of material on the back for wearing on your belt  and ill have to look I think there was a bracket to carry the step. If it is that  I have  one sitting on my bench in the garage.  Funny I still have that thing.

The ones we had were plain wood with no padding but that's it.

My brother came by and thinks he knows where one of old ones is hiding. I hope we can find it.

I use one of those several times a week.  Very simple and quite comfortable.

Ya know funny thing now that I think of it I still may want
To use that thing it would be easier than carrying a stool and or a foam pad looking for a stump to sit on.

The only problem I've found with my Torges type tree seat is that you have to be careful what type of tree you use it on.  Slick trunked trees-maple, beech, holly, etc.-don't work well.  I have to wrap the rope around the tree once to keep the rope from sliding down the tree when I sit on it.  The other thing, be sure you have enough rope.   A 12" tree has a 3' circumference, a 24" tree is over 6' around.  I have about 10' of rope on my version.

These type seats don't harm trees.  Many public lands and some leased ground stipulate that screw-in steps, nails, spikes, etc. aren't allowed-nothing that damages the tree.

I found the original seat. I'll post some pics of it tonight.

Here is the original. I haven't had a chance to to try it and need to dig out a Deer Me step.

The dimensions are 12"x8.5" 3/4"plywood. It has a hole on the bottom for the lip on the Deer Me step to go into.
