Got tired of sitting in trees. Gave my tree stand away and natural ground blinds for me going forward. Did manage to get a whitetail this year on the ground.

I spent about 21 days from the ground and 3 from a tree this year. I had deer in bow range while in a tree and got one shot off.

I had numerous shots from the ground, I missed a giant buck and passed up a few smaller ones.

The ground game has it's place and I will more than likely doing all my future scouting in places void of trees, deer don't need trees we need trees to hang stands in them.

I was using a ghillie suit and a small stool that swiveled. I never got busted by them at mere feet away. It's an awsome experience.

I have had similar experiences with the exception of using plaids instead of camo.  I have had the most shooting opportunities this year than ever.  The best part is hutning from the ground is you can move in on a deer or move easily and quietly if conditions change.  Hooked on the ground!

It's allot warmer on the ground, also I think we have a tendency to cheat the wind in a tree and sometimes get away with it.

You can't do that from the ground, which makes you actually hunt smarter.

I found if I set up in places where it's very unlikely I can shot behind me or deer will travel behind me, it's no different than a tree.

Not to mention is a ton of fun, it's on thing to have a deer under your tree or 5 yards or  from an I closed blind.

But when your eye level, with a big buck under 10 yards and he has no clue of the danger mere yards away.

My friend you have WON regardless of the outcome, not many folks in my generation have ever experienced that, or likely will unless it's an unplanned event.

I do it all and use it to my advantage. For a climber, I use a X-Stand, sit and climb. 12 pounds, yea...a 12 pound sit and climb stand that handles my 225 pound frame without issue. I hunt the mountains of WV and the days of humping a 30 pound climber are over, never again. I also love to get leafy-wared out, grab Medusa and still hunt. Love it all!

personally I think a simple 5 gallon or 7 gallon pail works best, you can put your ghillie inside
it and its much lighter than those fancy seats.

I hear the issues, and I do occasionally hunt the ground- but honestly even at 53 with 3 LW sticks and one stand (with a few modifications for quiet-stealth) I can hunt portable, scout of the fly,  keep stand sites always new/fresh, move as needed, and slip up and down in under 10 minutes.  I think guys make it far too complicated.

Hunting for me is not about how I can be the most efficient in killing a deer. It's about how much pleasure I can get out of getting a deer under conditions that require my utmost skill to pull it off. Just killing a deer is too easy now. I'm thinking about tying one hand behind my back.  :)

Seriously, I would rather kill one deer while stalking or hunting from an impromptu ground blind than 5 from a tree.
