Foam in carbon arrows

Has anyone tried using foam used in filling up voids in your carbon arrows. I would guess they can help a little with the weight and maybe help with the sound.

Have seen the backer foam rolls at our local Ace Hdw.
Looked great but 3/8s was as small as they had.
We use to squeeze/roll styro peanuts down and ram into our aluminum shafts...did I
 mention time consuming?
Better to just load the FOC and tune really well
IMO

I use rope as well and it does seem to work very well, I find you have to cut the length a little long so you push the rope in and it will then not move, another buddy of mine puts some duco on the rope end and then push the rope in and he says it never moves after that.
you should see how I use to shoot

with the rope if you only want to add about 4-60 grains of weight go with a polyrope. if you want 100-150 grains use nylon rope.
if you pack the rope well it will fill the shaft and not move at all. I bang the instert end of the shaft on a piece of plywood to get the rope to compress. then I add a little more rope if needed to fill the whole shaft. it takes me about 2-3 minutes per shaft to get the rope packed good and tight in the shaft.
An easier way to compress the rope is to stuff it full and shoot the arrow 5 or 6 times and that will compress it as well, then add more rope.
But if you compress it right the rope will never move. I have carbons that I practice with all the time that when I pull the knock off you can see the rope right there at the top of the shaft.

Yup, and once you decide to take it out it is a bear to remove after it compresses (nylon I mean).  I don't notice any flight issues when using rope for weight.

The foam stuff (Great Stuff, etc.) needs to be exposed to air to work/dry. It would stay kind of a gooey mess in the shaft, I believe.

I have also tried screen spline, but is doesn't compress and stay that way, so I have gotten some really funky arrow flight with it at times...very inconsistent. The rope works much better IMHO.

I've used the packing peanuts... they weigh about 5 grains a piece... I roll them up and take a wooden dowel and shove them down in the shaft... don't know if they effect spine or whatnot, I'm not that good of a shot to really know the difference...  I've used them in aluminum arrows as well...

why would you want to put anything in your carbon arrows? If you want more weight, just load up the front. It's almost like carbons were made for front end loading.

Because sometimes that isn't enough. :-)

I use nylon rope as well. My heaviest arrows to date came out at 870 grains. That is with 350 grains up front. Can tell no difference shooting with the rope, but able to get the gpp I want.

Bareshaft tuning at 15 yards.

I'm with Larry regarding why you would put anything in a carbon arrow. When they first came out I did it all, rope, weedeater line, weight tubes and increasing FOC. Increasing FOC fixed the weight problem without any of the problems created by the other add ons. In addition, you will get better penetration with more FOC even if you can match the weight with stuff inside the shaft.
