Double Nock Set Equaled Improved Accuracy
« on: December 16, 2013, 03:06:00 PM »
I just wanted to share a recent experience.  Have not posted in a while but thought this was worth mentioning.  I have been shooting trad for about 8 years now and I recently tried tying a double nock set on my 3 fingers under set up.  I have noticed an immediate and DRAMATIC increase in accuracy since doing so.  I am not saying this will work for everyone I just wanted to share my experience.  I suspect my arrow was sliding down the string at times upon release causing some accuracy issues. I have to say that this is the single biggest thing I have done to improve accuracy since getting into traditional archery.

Any one else experienced this?

When I was experimenting with 3 under, I found that the double nock set was almost a necessity for consistent accuracy. I've tried it shooting split fingers and haven't really noticed a difference one way or the other, so I just tie on one nock now.

If you shoot three under and tend to pull a bit more with the bottom finger, I think it changes the angle of the string below the nock enough to let it slip at times. I also found that the double nock set pinched the nock at full draw slightly and gave me a more secure feeling about the arrow.

The only downside is if you get excited in the heat of the moment and nock the arrow below the bottom nock set. At least that is what I am told. I always have an arrow on the string already when I'm in my stand anyway, and I have only ever gotten one more shot at a jake once out of a ground blind...missed both times, but I can't blame it one the bottom nock set. I was only using one. I was shooting through the screen and my depth perception goes off kilter when I do that.

Anyway, glad to hear it's working for you.

Wow. Great video.
The only thing I have noticed is that with a double knock I don't get a tail kick up when shooting through paper.
As for my accuracy,,,, i'm hope less.  :)

Heck, I use two nock sets and I shoot split.  I can't think of any negatives.

I discovered it purely out of accident and frustration before I ever discovered Trad Gang.  I was paper tuning one day and no matter what I tried I couldn't stop getting low tears....I tied in a nocking point below my nock and shot a bullet hole first shot.  I thought I was a genius until I found out on Trad Gang I was a couple decades late with my dicovery   :knothead:

Three equipment changes have helped my shooting the most.  Double nock set, loosen the nock fit on the string and tuning to the perfect spined arrow.  When all three were done I was amazed at how much my accuracy and consistency improved.

But the biggest was improving the concentration between my ears - easily 90% of good shooting.  You can have the first three perfect but if you can't master the mental concentration you won't ever be happy with your shooting.

Does it have to be tie on nocks, or do brass crimp on nocks work as well? Also, should they have a space between the nock and bottom nock point to allow for angle at full draw on a short bow?

I think tie on works the best and you want a space in between the nock and bottom nock point.

I have to tie a bottom one on tonite on my new toelke whip, I shot it yesterday with only one and got some funky flyers, had that happen on bow with one nock before.

I put a dap of super glue on them.

Yeah I have a small gap between mine. Probably 16th of an inch. I was getting those funky unexplainable fliers until I put the second nock on.  I am still amazed.  Real easy to tie them on.  Plenty of youtube vids.  If I can do it it has to be easy....

Just tied one on below the nock about 1/16th of an inch and all I can say is wow.  Immediately noticed a difference in groupings. Tip of the year for sure

Here's a quick video that I did on double nocks.  It may help those that want to give it a try...

I use the knot in the above video but with B50.  My string is served with monofilament.  I melt it down good onto the serving.  I place my tab right over the top of the knot like it wasn't even there.  For some reason I like my finger right under the arrow instead of under the bottom nocking point.
