Little something I thought I'd share
« on: December 17, 2013, 10:24:00 PM »
I put a new coat of wax on my string tonight.  After I put everything back together I pulled the string back in a "quiet" spot in the house.  I did this because I heard a story once of a cold bowstring whose wax made a crack noise while being drawn back.  As my string pulled away from my limbs (recurve) I heard a little tick.  I have no felt or anything on the limbs and none in the house.  This is what I came up with.  I gutted a few inches of my sons paracord and slid it onto the string at either end.  Just enough to cover the spot where the string comes in contact with the limb.  No more tick!  Hope this helps someone.  Sorry, cameras broken.

I am so thankfull you shared this...my bow has begun the same thing...I thought it was due to using the Bohning tex-tite...I should have bought some newer string dressing. I am going to burnish it again and see if it helps, but if not, I will try this.

Terry Green's Bow Hush, and Hush Puppies also work great for this. Best way I have found to quiet a recurve!
Plant a fruit or nut tree today, and have good hunting tomorrow.

I use wool thread for both silencers and to wrap the ends. A good string and I healthy brace height ,and even my cheap samick is dead quiet.

The noise comes from the wax sticking to the limb.
Been there.

I've wrapped my string's in the past also with the wool and the bowhush.  Both awesome ways to fix the issues.  Didn't have either of them on hand though and this was a spur of the moment, "wonder if it'll work" idea.  Just thought I'd share.

Thanks!
Having done so much, with so little, for so long, I can now do anything with nothing.
