Question about downed hickory tree
« on: September 12, 2007, 06:39:00 PM »
hi all,
I found a cut down hickory tree that has been cut down for about a week. I know that with hickory being a whitewood you have to get them split quick. Is this tree still salvageable? Its a good size tree and the checking at the ends of it isnt too bad. what do you think? Bow worthy?

I would say that it is. Cut it off below the checking, cut to lenght, split it and seal the ends. Wait a year or so and it should be ready to shape.
