Ok guys, we have been having a great time.  Hunting hard.  We have not had very good phone connection.  I think the 4g is 4f for me.

When we got here still had plenty of snow to do some tracking.  PLENTY of deer.  Kenny had stands up but we set 2 of our own.  We decided to let one cool off till morning.  Noah hunted one of the stands set by an old allis chalmer tractor.  I hunted an old ground blind I made last year.  About an hour into the first afternoon I got a text from Noah.  "I just shot a doe"  I was thinking, really!?

Well,  he did shoot a doe but she jumped string on him and sprang forward.  He hit her just in front of the hip.  Of course she ran off.  We let her sit for 2 hours till dark.  We decided to wait a while longer but when we got to our 4 wheeler she had bedded about 10 yards from it!  We jumped her up and she took off.

After talking it over with Kenny we decided to track her at night on the snow we had left.  After 2 hours of blood trail we figured she was still alive and well.  And that is how the first day ended.

I'll try to put more up tomorrow.  We have seen a tremendous amount of deer.  Some really good bucks.  And oh yes, there is a deer hanging in Kenny's shop.   :goldtooth:    :goldtooth:

They have no signal here, wrong fone provider.

They are headed home in AM and should catch ya up then.  They had a blast and said they saw more deer than last year when they were here in Nov.

Hey guys.  We got home Wednesday evening late and had to go to yuck WORK yesterday!  Gonna give you a condensed trip report so here you go.

The frist full day of hunt.  Noah set on his stand we put up on Thursday and I set on the stand where he shot the doe the day before.  Noah had deer all around him.  At one time had 4 doe and 2 bucks together.  One of the bucks was a very large 10 pointer.  Of course, one of the doe finally spotted him and bounced off with one of the bucks.  But ole big boy stayed around long enough to make him think he was going to get a shot.  But he didn't.

As for me, I didn't see a thing.  I got down about 10 a.m. and went to find me a better spot.  Found it and set my Lone Wolf up on some really fresh trails in a creek.

The afternoon hunt was pretty quite.  I saw a small doe in the milo field behind me feeding.  Closest she came was about 30-40 yards.  Noah didn't see any Friday afternoon.

Saturday morning Noah sat on his hot spot again.  He had a small buck come in real early and two doe about 9:00,  no shots.

I saw a spike early and at 8:30 a six pointer and a doe worked their way down the dry creek that I was set up on.  Of course they stayed out of range and fed off.  About ten minutes passed and they were coming back.  The buck was a big deer with a little rack.  His main beams were long and round but grew up instead of out.  His points were short and thin.  UGLY! But that really don't bother me too much.  I don't consider myself a trophy hunter per say.  Don't get me wrong I do often hold out to try for a bigger deer if the opportunity exist.  I was going to try my best to kill this buck if I could.  Late December, 10 degrees, no deer kill this season you know what I mean?  He was coming my way!  Stepped into the open, I let an arrow loose.  I was lined up perfectly with those ribs.  But shot low by almost a foot.

He stood motionless while I reached for an arrow.  Had my arrow knocked and was raising my bow when he bolted.  Taking the doe with him.  And that is how the day ended.

I said that is how the day ended.  I meant morning.  After missing the buck I decided to move about 75 yards up the creek west of where I was hunting.  Found a spot where seemed like the deer were feeding around the edge of the field and creek.  I hunted here Saturday afternoon and didn't see anything.  I forgot to mention that Saturday morning a small bobcat sure had the squirrels going nuts.  It came through twice.

Saturday evening Noah moved to the north farm on a spot that I hunted the last two years.  We put a lock on in a nice sized oak on a hot run.  Of course, the deer followed him where ever he went.  He had deer on every side of him at the same time.  None within bow range!!!  This was a reoccurring theme for him the entire hunt.  And can get pretty disappointing at times even for the most seasoned hunter.  But he is a seasoned hunter.  Killed his first deer at age 12 and is now 25.  So he knows how it goes.  At least he is seeing plenty of deer.

Saturday at noon we did some scouting and saw 4 bucks together.  One was a BIG 10.  I put up a stand and got out of there.  Couldn't wait till morning!!

Sunday morning we woke up to 18 degree and 20 mph north wind.  I climbed my stand and strapped in.  So did Noah.  I had 0 confidence of seeing anything!!  Weather was horrible.  I get a text from Noah at 8:00 saying that he had shot another doe.  He went on to say that the shot was not good.  She stood quarter away at 20 yards.  He hit her at about the last rib just like you are supposed to but the arrow turned and ran up her side instead of through the deer.  The deer ran about 40 yards and stood and began to blow at him.

I had him wait until 9 to come get me.  We began tracking her.  I found the arrow about a hundred yards away.  We were very disgusted.  The new Magnus Stinger head looked like it had struck a cinder block.  It was covered with hair and fat and curled up.  The feral was also bent that held the blade.  Must have hit a bone (rib) and turned up the deer and hit the leg bone or shoulder instead of going on through the deer.
