Choppers

So I got some Trueflight Full Length Feathers that I wish to chop myself. I was wondering if anyone else makes a chopper besides the ones 3Rivers sells..any other makers?

dont know of any others. But the ones from 3 rivers are great. They hold up incredibly well to years and years of use.

Herbs archery

Herb makes a chopper like the old Vario clipper.
It is much stronger and sturdier, and you can buy spare parts or interchangeable cutters . On the Little chopper not able to get spare parts any longer.

i've had a few vario clippers and they are pretty much the rolls royce of feather choppers.  but don't discount those far less expensive li'l choppers - they're easy to set up and do a yeoman job for thousands of fletchings.  however, i vastly prefer feather burning and have 3 youngs set up for different fletch shapes.

I think Bearpaw makes one also.  Check the Kustom King site.

So the cheap ones will do thousands of feathers. Unless you're doing it as a business they should be fine. If only for your own personal use thousands of feathers would take forever to do. Wear it out and buy a new one.

I know this is about choppers BUT if you try a young feather   :campfire:  burner you will almost never chop another feather(just get use to the smell)

I use a feather burner but also have the little chopper. I found out fast the pressed wood that came on it did not hold up to a hammer at all. I started using a plastic mallet and switched to blocks of oak to strike with the mallet.

I use a rubber mallet with my Lil Chopper and have had no problems with damage to it.

When using the Little Chopper from 3Rivers, make sure you use a bunch of small taps rather than one hard one..the tool will last much longer.

I agree with Sage! Tap, Not Pound! They will last for years! I have several styles that I have cut Thousands of Fletches with and No Complaints here! Cant beat them for the $$$!
