Deer hunting in Arizona questions
« on: January 07, 2014, 06:33:00 PM »
I just returned from coues deer hunting in Arizona.  Bad news is I did not get my deer, good news is I have a 2014 hunting license and 2014 deer tag which will be good again later this year.  My hunt was with an outfitter and when I return I plan on a DYI hunt.  Can someone here point me in a good direction.  I hunted just north of Willcox last week.

Thanks,

Scott

Going for Coues, again? If so, the Huachucas. Don't find much else, for deer, there.

Hey I am on my way down to Arizona later this week for my annual hunt for coues deer and javelina. I enjoy my trips to southern Arizona each year. If you go in jan. of 15 let me know and I will share some of my info. Or you are welcome to join me and my father-in law in the desert. I will let you know how we do when I get back later in the month.

I meet TG Like to get all The TG  together and Have Lunch
Archery is: Getting as far away from the target as you can, and still hit it.
Bowhunting is: Getting as close to the target as you can, and not miss!

I am near Tucson right now and will be here for the month.  I have a javelina tag and have only been out a couple of times,  and have not seen much.  This is different hunting for me and the learning curve is steep.  But I do have time on my side, so w will see what comes of it.

If any TG'rs are in the area I'd love to meet up and compare notes.

Whip, I'm snowbirding north of  Florence; don't have a license, but I hike the desert a lot in search of the little stink pigs. As you have probably figured out, you need to cover a lot of ground, and even then, javies are sometimes hard to find. I have looked at an awful lot of barrel cactus and tried to turn them into javelina, so far without success. I have found certain areas where we are that usually contain javelina, although I may see them once out of 5 or 6 hikes in those areas. Where you see one, there are probably a bunch more.

The only Coues deer I have seen down here have been in the mountains near Roosevelt Lake; they are ghostly little critters, and skittish as all get out. I would guess that bowhunting them in a spot/stalk situation would be about as tough a hunt as you could find. I do see mulies regularly where we are, though.
