Different spine shot?
« on: January 08, 2014, 04:25:00 PM »
Saturday evening a big doe finally came in range , 14 never, and I accidentaly spine shot her. She dropped straight down with her legs tucked perfectly under her as if bedded and never moved a muscle, dead as can be. Never heard of this before. Delta two blade went thru her shot out of a 61# Timberhawk talon recurve , the last evening of my season.

My first deer kill back in 1975 was a spine hit . Went down in its tracks .

My 340fmj hit about 3" behind shoulder and about 6" down from top of back. I've killed half a dozen with spine shots but none that never moved or took at least a last breathing movement.

I have spine shot 10 or 11 bucks over the years. All were unintentional by the animal ducking the arrow and by poor shooting on my part. When they are spine shot close to the shoulder they can be paralyzed completely with nothing moving other than the eyes as the body shuts down as they cannot breath. This is the best spine shot there is as it is the most human.
