Heavy Field Points for Skinny carbons
« on: January 21, 2014, 03:54:00 PM »
So the FMJ's, MFX's etc. are great for building high FOC arrows,  but where are you getting your field tips in heavier weights (200grn +) that aren't way wider then the arrow.  Saunders makes some nice field points that fit slim carbons,  but they don't go up that high in weight.

My largest are 175. I use heavier brass HIT inserts if I need more weight. I shoot Easton Axis Trads in 500 spine. These field tips have tapered ferrules at the shaft.

3Rivers has them up to 300 grains.  The body has a larger diameter than carbons but they taper at the back and just about exactly match the diameter of my ACCs.

I agree, I wish somebody would make 150+ grain screw in points with an outside diameter of 0.280"-0.300", no matter how long they ended up being.  I think the tapered points are an effort to keep the length of the point down.

PDP Easy Pull points have a heel that tapers to 20/64 in 200 grain...I use a bench grinder to fit them even closer on my FMJ

I set out a while ago to reduce my herd of 40 bows...And I am finally down to 42
