I now have private land to hunt. Whoo Hoo!
« on: January 23, 2014, 08:24:00 PM »
After hunting public land for several years, I received an invitation to join a group of hunters on private land. I can't tell you how happy this makes me! It has been extremely challenging hunting public land, which has given me a greater appreciation for this opportunity. The thought of being able to hang my stands and leave them up during the season, and to have land with excellent deer sign, just makes me smile.

I haven't arrowed a deer since 2009 and I'm filled with anticipation for the 2014 deer season.

Best of luck!

I hunted public lands for 25 years and finally bought a home with 20 acres that is nestled in square miles of wooded land.

One of my neighbors lives out of state and keeps a small camp on his 360 acres.  I keep an eye on things in the off season and he lets me hunt it for all but two weeks during gun season.  A great deal.

You just made me break one of the Ten Commandments, "Thou shalt not covet"  ;)

Having your own piece of hunting ground is something to be enjoyed, congrats.

Congratulations. I only have public land. Just curious what county you have.

Great news Dennis!  What a great time of the year to pick up a new property.  Hopefully you'll get out and do some shed hunting over the next couple of months!

I've always had private land to hunt, but these days it is not cheap. I have one farm that I hunt for free. I currently belong to 3 different clubs.Where I live it is mandatory if you want to hunt. The closest public land worth a hoot is 100 miles away in the blue ridge mnts. For the last 12 years a few of my hunting buddies and I have took a few days off to hunt the public land for a change in scenery. Reading some of the post on this site I know that I am truly BLESSED for the opportunity to have so much private land at my finger tips. GOOD LUCK ! Craig

Man, that's awesome.  The single most important factor in taking better bucks.  I always have to laugh when people from other parts of the country talk about the difficulties of hunting public land.  I live in central Jersey, the most densely populated corridor of the most densely populated state in the nation.  I can't imagine public land being any worse than it is here.
