Feather grinder

Has anyone made there own feather grinding jig? I would like to see some pics of a few ideas, thanks.

I've got one I made and a while back Littlefeather asked me to do a tutorial.  Maybe I need to finish that.

The jig and grinder
 

First pass to grind the side down.
 

Second pass to flatten the base.
 

Close up.
 

Finished feathers ready to chop.

how did you attach the drum to the motor.  looks like the business end of an old drill?  can you post some details of that.

That's the same one I've made.  I forget where I got the plans for it though.  Do you remember where you got it from?  I've had it for years and it works like a charm.  I use a router table to grind with though.

I can't remember if I made the clamp from Dean's design or some other plan.

Brian, there are only four items there that I bought, the rest are scrounged or gimmees.  
I removed the chuck from a worn out electric drill a few years ago and it threads onto a grinding wheel arbor that I bought at a hardware store.  The other two bought items are the hasp and hinge on the feather clamp.

Here is the type of arbor like I used.  Didn't buy it here, got it at the local hardware store.  You can see the washers and nut in the first picture.

I am an electrician and hobby woodworker so all the other stuff was discarded material that I pack-ratted.  The motor was a throw-away with an open winding that I took home and fixed.  Switch, box, and cord were throw-aways from construction sites where I worked.  The wood was bought but was leftover from other woodworking projects.  My total cost is probably less than $10.

The reason I took the time to make a stand-alone grinder is I got tired of resetting my drill press everytime I had a different task to do with it.

thanks for the info and the link.  I ordered one from the link and received it in just 2 days! I can see alot of potential use for this setup beyond feather grinding.

I clamp my feathers in a straight clamp and use my belt sander.
