Nothing free range up there. There's some fenced operations though. If you want true free range pig hunting you have to head south. I always hear about pockets of pigs here and there that have been moved. For consistent hunting where the pigs won't  be nocturnal focus on FL, GA and SC.  TX and CA can have good hunting too. Just do your homework before you go.

Rick, Rumor had it some got out, any one who saw hogs were supposed to shoot to kill.  I have not heard anyone getting anything though so I think, they are all dead or the population is small and very hunter savvy.

Maybe some guys who live on the Southern tier or in Oneida could shed some light.
Relax,

I live in onondaga county ,one of 4-5 counties with wild hog reproduction. It would be difficult to specifically target them as the population is small and those taken have been incidental.Originally the DEC encouraged every one to shoot any they saw, however they do not encourage this any more and now ask that you do not pursue them. The reason is that hunting pressure scatters them and they do not want new populations to get established in other parts of the state.Instead the DEC is attempting to bait, capture and destroy them so they want them as unpressured as possible.
