Hey guys. I got a Soverign Archery Ballistik 55# @ 28" 64" AMO in the mail today. My wife traded some taxidermy work for it pending my shooting and approval if it. It has had a crack in the riser and the owner said it was repaired with sinew by the bowyer then it has been wrapped around that area in snake skin.
My first thoughts were that it looks kinda rough but being pretty never took down an animal. I bolted her back together and strung it up. The damn thing felt like it was an 80 pound bow while stringing.
I took it out back to try it out after stringing it up and WOW! It pulls like a 35 pounder and shoots like a 70 pounder. I think it's the fastest bow I've ever shot pound for pound.
It is kinda ugly but I could easily see this being "the one" because of the way it shoots. I'm shooting it now on a trial basis but I'm in love with it for its shooting.
My only concern is that repaired crack in the riser. It isn't in a glue up line, it looks like this piece of wood just broke. It starts in the web of the bow hand and appears to run up the riser past the strike plate. I can't tell exactly for the snake skin that covers it up.
What should I be looking for to see if the crack is growing? There's only one spot below the shelf that I can see it but I'm sure it's there the whole way under the snake skin. I love the bow...I mean I LOVE the bow. But I don't want to end up with a damn plague either.
