shoulder fixed (easy)
« on: February 07, 2014, 01:31:00 PM »
For the last 4 months I have been dealing with bum right shoulder I figured it was wear and tear that finally caught up with me.  I couldn't hardly lift my arm to draw and it was painful to draw.  One morning in November I was on stand with my 40 pound bow (named "bad shoulder") after sitting for 4 hours it was time to go so I decided to take my usual practice shot before getting out of my stand(always shooting at something on my exit trail) and I couldn't draw my bow.  My shoulder just wouldn't allow it.  That was a sad wake up.  I managed to work on some exercises to loosen it up so I could go back to my 47 pound bow the rest of the season.  Fast forward to Feb 1st I'm at the chiropractor getting my back adjusted and on a whim ask him about my shoulder.  He adjusted it three times in 2 minutes and  what do ya know, no more shoulder pain. No problems drawing any of my stick bows.  I know there's a variety of shoulder issues bow shooters have, just thought I would offer this up as a possible option for others with a bum shoulder.

Yes, it's not always something torn. i operate machinery, repetitive movements. anyway I notice my shoulder starting to hurt one day, thought I tore something picking up a bag off of a shelf. Would really start to hurt shooting the bow and working out. Stopped working with that equipment and no more pain.

I'll bet if I went to the doctor, they would have gladly opened up my shoulder !, well not all doctors.

Hey Joe can Chiropracter's help with shoulder impingement? Left handed, bow holding arm. My draw length is shortening to compensate for it. Down from 27.5" to 25". Dropped bow weight by 5 pounds so far. Life College, Palmer, other? Play any Rugby?
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways-BOW in one hand-ARROWS in the other-Body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming-WOO HOO! WHAT A RIDE!

Kim, Not a DC but I have been going for years.
My right shoulder started to hurt about 4-5 yrs ago. With in a week I could not sleep, move it, lift, shoot, Nothing.
Went to the DC, told the girl that gives a warm up massage that my shoulder hurt worse than my back. She did some deep tissue prodding and then told the Doc what was going on, A few minutes later ALL of the pain was gone and has never come back.

2yrs ago my left shoulder did the same thing. Did the DC trick again but this seemed to be a little different and didn't want to go away.
MRI said laberal tear. Surgeon said her office exam didn't support the MRI/x-ray findings.
6-8 Physical therapy sessions and a summer of home exercise program and I was back up to hunting weight bows. Now I can draw and shoot an 80+# bow a few times.
I kept going to the DC thru all of this and I feel that he helped as much as any of the therapy.
I think my problem starts in my neck and goes down into the front point of my shoulder. When my neck hurts, so does my shoulder.
A few exercise and a few trips to the DC and I am good to go. My trips to the DC are less frequent when I keep up with my exercises.
I like Chiropractors. ALOT.
I could write a book about my back issues and other "Whole Body" help they have provided me over the years.

Joe, I am putting you on my list of people to visit if and when I elk hunt this fall in CO.   :)

Good luck.

Check with chiropractor and phys. therapist, but I am sure most will support this, get a pair of Indian clubs, use them religiously, and no more shoulder, or neck pain !

A good chiropractor is a special person.  I've had a couple of "shoulder" problems that had nothing to do with the shoulder at all.  I've learned to follow his direction.  If i do my part, he is spot on with recovery time.
