Ohio Tradgangers
« on: February 17, 2014, 05:12:00 PM »
The last few years I have been hearing a lot more about hogs in Ohio. I went to a location that is listed on the division of wildlife website as a confirmed hog location and found no traces. Granted, I have absolutely zero experience with hogs, but I would think that with the snow on the ground hog sign would stand out like a sore thumb. So my question is, do any of my fellow Ohioans have any hog experiences?

Ive looked for them at Zaleski and waybe national forest

They exist, but like bobcats and honey bears the sightings are far ad few between.

I met a realtor a few years back that hunted them with dogs and a knife.
He said he had some spots in Ohio
Let me see if I can find his contact nbr

If not try some hog hunting forums, probably a good place to find some.
But good hog hunting spots are like deer honey holes...no one talks about them.

I went to the Richland furnace section of zaleski. I have heard a lot of reports of kills around McArthur. I was just hoping to find something to keep me busy for awhile. I'm not big on turkey hunting so I figured if I could locate some hogs that would be the ticket.

If you find them let me know I'm in. We checked a few years ago and got laughed at by the locals.

Yeah I hear ya! You ask about hogs in Ohio and a lot of people look at you like you're asking where you can go to hunt Sasquatch

I talked to a WNF ranger a couple months ago and she said they are seeing an increase of them in the Ironton unit.

I actually found a farm that had hogs, but they don't allow hunting due to their cattle herd. They trap them to get rid of them. When I asked if they allowed hunting, he said we were the 3rd group of hunters to ask just that day alone!

We searched high and low in "confirmed" public land areas and couldn't find any sign at all. Old or new..... Nothing to show they had EVER been there on the public land.

Kind of what I suspected. I think maybe the DOW is exaggerating the situation to try to eliminate them before they become a problem. From what I've heard hog numbers can grow rather quickly though.
