I had about 180 chestnuts that I stratified using three different methods in order to get them to germinate. Two I them worked ,so now our living room is full of small starter pots and still have at least 60-100 seeds. Walmart sells these for 25 dollars a tree through Real tree nurseries. If anyone is close, and wants to try to grow some seedlings, I can hook you up.  Deer are said to prefer these 100 to 1 over white oaks.
I do have two seedlings from the American chestnut foundation. I hoped they survived the winter. My hope is to save all the seeds  and restore the American chestnut to my farm.

I'm not familiar with the Dunston Chestnuts but I am familiar with the ACF's varieties. Is this just another variety of disease resistant Am. Chestnut?

They were crossed back in the 50's or so.  All of your wildlife trees are for the most part Dunstons. My American chestnuts are 15/16 93% American chestnut and are suppose to be blight resistant and are the result of breeding since the 1980's. I won two seedlings in a lottery and had to sigh a germination agreement.

Guys, Thank you for your efforts to get the chestnut back, I think that is giving back to Mother Nature!  :clapper:    :clapper:

I saw these advertised in the latest QDM magazine, but thought it said Mossy Oak's Nativ Nursery.  Either way I definitely want to try and get some going around here.  Saw some advertised in the Burgess catalog I got a few weeks ago.

I have bought many trees from native nurseries. I am waiting for an order  to be shipped the 4th week of March. Their chestnuts are most likely Dunstons.  A 300 dollar donation to the chestnut foundation will get you three genetic chestnuts to stratify.
