footed arrows=spine change?
« on: March 16, 2014, 01:49:00 PM »
i'm thinking about footing some arrows with walnut. 4 point. how much will that change the spine? i turn my own shafts so i'll be able to get what spine i need but just need to know from someone that has done it how much it changed it. oh, i use douglas fir for my shafting.

another question. i'm gonna be building my son a glass/wood laminated hill style longbow. he is 52" tall has a 20" draw and currently pulls 20# with his 48" oak selfbow i built him nearly 4 years ago. he says the bow is just too short. would like to build one that will grow with him. what would be a good length for him?

I asked the Dean of all modern arrowsmiths (Bob Burton) that exact question once...he told me I was over thinking things.

Go forth and sling arrows!

No change in the spine in the arrows that I've made.

Made a dozen footed shafts last week.  Didn't notice much of a change.

On the length of the bow I'd suggest a 62 inch length works well for all my grandkids and customers.
