Timber Ghost Static 52inch recurve review

Timber Ghost Static Tip Recurve

I contacted Kent of TimberGhost Recurves about possibly shooting one of his static tip recurves to see if it was a fit for me. Kent responded promptly and stated that he would send me his personal 52 inch static tip recurve to test drive! I live in Texas and don’t know Kent from Adam, but Kent sent his bow and here is my review for what it’s worth.

Here is a little bit of background on me.  I shoot three under and I use a gap method to shoot. I shoot a black widow PCH and KBX. My draw length is 28 inches and the bows scale in at about 50lbs. I have owned and shot numerous brands of bows but the Widows just seem to fit. The Widows that I own are 58 inch bows. I really love the forward riser design and also appreciate a little extra weight in a riser. I have tennis elbow and really have a lot of problems with lighter bows. It also took me a while to figure out that I like a high wrist grip. I have shot and owned my share of bows figuring that out, but I have enjoyed the journey!!! Here is a list of the bows that I have owned or shot just for refrence. (Martin Dreamcatcher,Martin Mamba,Martin Rebel,Bear Kodiak,Bear Grizzly,Big Jim Thunderchild,Kanati,RER Retro,Sarrels Blueridge. Black Widow PCH and KBX.

I opened the package that Kent sent the bow in and unwrapped the bow. The bow which is a three piece takedown, was easy to assemble. The limbs fit snuggly to the riser and were easily threaded and tightened. The Static tip limbs were easily strung with a standard stringer and I adjusted the brace height to 8inches. The Bow was compact but had good mass and weight. Kent stated that this particular bow was about 57lbs at 28inches.

The Grip was stippled and had a great feel. The Riser and grip seemed to melt into each other.  I took some time the first day to tune some arrows. It only took a short time the first day to come up with an arrow that worked. I ended up with a 400 spine traditional only carbon cut at 30inches. I had 100 grain brass inserts and 125 grain points in the front of the arrow. First thing that I noticed was that the bow was a little quieter than the widows that I shoot. The bow drew very smooth even with the additional weight.  The bow was extremely fast and hard hitting. My point of aim and impact were 30 yards with this particular bow. To those who don’t shoot gap, this means that the point of the arrow is aimed right at what I want to hit at 30yards. I had zero finger pinch at my 28inch draw. My hog light also fits on the riser perfectly just like my widows!!!

I have shot the bow for several days now and have included some pictures of several groups shot at 15,20 and 25yards. The bow was consistent and accurate from group to group, and day to day. I was surprised that the extra weight did not aggravate my aging tendons. I have experienced no side effects from shooting the TimberGhost. I will say that I am amazed how accurate that this little bow is!!! This bow is designed to hunt! I was looking for a short bow for tight treestand hunting and this one fills that niche and then some! To say that I am impressed with Kent and his bow are an understatement. It is rare in this day and age to have the kind of customer service that Kent has shown me. I will be ordering a TimberGhost Static Tip at 52inchs and wanted to share my experience with all of you. I believe that my Widows will be getting a little vacation next deer season!

This one is definitely on my bucket list! Hopefully I'll be able to experience it sooner rather than later. Thanks for sharing.  Nice shooting BTW!

I'm not in the least bit surprised about any of this review. I have been talking with and dealing with Kent for the last several weeks, and he is THE BEST!

I'll have a post up soon about my experience with Kent and TimberGhost bows. Top Notch customer service all the way!

Congrats on your experience and your choice to buy one of the best bows out there from one of the best guys out there.

Yep I ordered a 54" timber ghost myself  several weeks ago. I also shot several BW bows and love them but wanted to give Kens design a try.

Well, I got to shoot this little bow today. I am a longbow guy and have to tell you I was impressed with this bow. I have never shot a static tip recurve before. I thought it was great. Super quiet especially for the weight and short length. No finger pinch at my 28.5" draw. I was shooting in horrible conditions (up to 30 mph gusts) and still had good groups. Overall I thought this little bow was sweet. This bow seemed to be very forgiving. Thanks to Billy for letting me shoot this and especially to Kent for giving Billy the opportunity. I thought it was very cool of Kent to send out his personal bow to Billy. He's got some big plans for Kent to build him a great little bow.
