not many ptarmigan this year
«

But what a nice day yesterday. It was another day of paying the price i.e the hike/climb to get above treeline, and then drinking the cream at the top with the easier walking and gorgeous views.
The mildest winter I can remember, looks and feels like spring but thats normally a month or two off.
Just some pics of the day. Very little sign and never saw a bird.
Some ptarmigan tracks at my feet...
.
.
A bit of the view.

Better get over to that knob and check it out, there's some tracks in the snow.
.
.
I'll hike up there but lets zoom in first.
.
.
And a little closer.

An excuse to hike to another knob, tracks near the stunted spruce.

Nobody home.

Trying to look everywhere at once for a little white bird.

That's all.

Reminds me of hills I climbed east of Anchorage.
Always loved climbing them and the reward of the views from the tops.

Tim,
Thanks for sharing. Too bad on the lack of ptarmigan but let's hope that 2014 is good for salmon!
Will give you a call this September if we're able to finish with moose in time to chase some silvers on the Kenai.

John - sockeye likely ok chinook likely not so good. It would be nice to be wrong about that though lol.
That would be a lot of fun going for silvers, I'll keep the hooks sharp and the boats ready.
