String Quality

I purchased a RER LX longbow from a board member and when Ithe serving went on the sting that came with the bow I ordered a new string from a highly recommended string maker who also  reserved my old string.  When they arrived I set them both up on the bow.  I was kind of surprised but I found the bow performs better with the string that came with the bow vice the higher dollar string I had made.  Kind of disappointed but definitely another learning experience.

Hi Tony,..same number of strands? same length {brace height}? same nock fit? same silencers on the string? did you shoot through a chrono? What do you mean by, performs better? Just asking.....Lloyd

String length came in shorter than recommended by the bowyer by 1/2".  Appears to be a different number of strands.  Arrow flight with same arrows just not the same.  I was thinking I would keep the old string as a backup but did the opposite and will use the new one as a spare.  Nock fit is the same on both since I had both reserved at the same time.  I set the BH and nock points at the same location.

How much did you shoot the new string. For me some New stings seen like they take quite a few shoots before they settle in.

There are so many different string materials to choose from these days.You have D97,8125,8125G,8190,BCY-X,450+,452X,Astro Flight,Rhino and many more.They all can have different qualities!Do you know what string material was used?

And what was the difference? WAs the old string faster, quieter, more accurate, etc etc.

Old string may have been FF and new one not, for example.

It could be some or all of the above issues. I just recently received the strings and worked setting the brace height and nock points.  I tried just setting it up like the old string and that may just not work for this string.  I'm not giving up on it as this may turn out to be a good learning experience.  Plan on messing with it over the weekend.  Someone also recommended the new string may require a stiffer spine arrow.  I have arrows to test that theory.  Difference was arrow flight was truer and groups tighter.  I have no idea of speed.  Never chronographed a trad bow and never intend to.  Both strings are quiet.

I would guess that the new string is more efficient thus changing your tune.  I just bought a new SBD string for a bow I just bought.  The old string was shooting bare shafts stiff.  The new string put the same shafts a little limber and needed a lower nock.
