less stretchy
« on: March 27, 2014, 03:27:00 PM »
as i am refinishing an old ben pearson recurve, i need to figure out what to do about the tips and string. i have already gotten all the nasty 'gook' and finish off and am ready to start on the tips. i am wondering if there is a less stretchy version of dacron that can be used on an older recurve without using FF strings...i am not comfortable using FF strings due to repairing some light tip damage and having to replace the overlays on the tips (one was chipped so bad it just popped off). i will list the bow specs below. Thank you for any advice as this is my first refinish and am eagerly looking to have it done and the lessons learned.

bow specs:
'65 Ben Pearson G.S. Conqueror
41@28"
62" (marked on bow)
center cut/radiused riser

If I'm not mistaken, I believe the B55 is supposed to have a little less stretch than B50. Hopefully one of the string gurus will weigh in.

B-55 has the least stretch of any of the polyester ("dacron") materials but is still safe for old bows.

would a flemish twist or endless loop be better?

Mainly a personal preferance thing.  Equally well made, there's not much difference.

Flemish is more adjustable and usually a little quieter;  endless will usually setting in faster and is usually more consistent from one string maker to the next.
