VPA vs Woodsman Question

I've got a new set up for one particular bow I have and it looks like it's going to shoot 150 grain tips. I was looking at the Woodsman 150 grain tip real hard,but read a number of reviews saying that it would whistle in flight. I looked at the regular VPA head and it didn't have vents,but it looked quite a bit shorter. How important is the 3:1 ratio on a three blade broadhead? How many of you shoot the regular VPA 150 grain three blade? Thanks

I shoot the 175 & 250 grain VPA 3-Blade heads.... Very nice heads all the way around!

I shoot vented woodsman elites, all quiet here.

I use both of these heads in 150g out of my longbow. Both excellent choices. The VPA sharpen easier and make no noise in flight but cost 2X. Once I'm out of VPA, I'll only use the WW from my longbow though. Both equally effective on game for me and both fly beautifully.  Out of my recurve I shoot only VPA 200's which are very similar in length to the WW.

I started with the 150 WW and they are good heads but on this days I prefere the VPA  250 very though head all another world,still the WW makes its job.

Here is my take. I shot the original vented Woodsmans in the past and have found that they get the job done, but the blades will bend when they go into critters. I have a drawer full of bent up originals. I switched to VPA(Woodsman Elites are the same head) and these issues have stopped. Last year I put the same head through a bull elk, a whitetail buck, a doe, and a coyote. All three blades are still true and it flies perfect. These heads are machined out of a block of steel. the blades are welded onto the old style. You get what you pay for. Unless you loose them, they should last a long time.

Do you know for sure it is true they are manufactured from the same place? I've heard it both ways, but recently seen a photo and it show the tips a little different.

Thanks guys. I guess I should have said the Woodsman Elite against the VPA 150. I probably couldn't go wrong with either. Prairie Drifter above addressed one of my main concerns with the Woodsman Elite.

I shoot the Woodsman Elite 125gr and if mine do whistle all the deer I killed with one have never complained about it being noisy I like the 3to1 better they penetrate great. The deer this year I got 18.5" of penetration 517gr arrow 177fps.   Widow

As far as I know the elites are made by VPA. There may be some small difference, but both are machined out of a single block of steel and are the same dimentions. I stick with the unvented model for more strength. The Elite or VPA, you can't go wrong with either one.
