Need arrow advice for 54# Kota Killum
« on: April 08, 2014, 09:00:00 PM »
Hey, I am fairly new to the sport and would love to get some advice before I purchase arrows. I have a 54# killum. My draw is 28" and I plan to hunt with 160 grain broad heads. I have read that because this bow is not cut to center it might be more challenging to tune. If anyone has a similar setup I would be very interested to hear what works well for you. Any advice would be great. I was planning to go with aluminum arrows but am open to all suggestions. Thanks!

2117 or 2216 should be close.

Surewood Fir would be my choice.  29" BOP with a 160 point would be 60-64 lb spine; maybe 65-69 with a hard string.

Clayton, do you know how shy of center this bow is cut?

I don't know how shy of center it is. Hopefully there are some killum shooters out there who may know.

Iv just tuned a 50 pound at 28.5in and a 2117 with 175 worked great. The only way you will get it perfect is to bareshaft test.

I would try contacting the bow maker and asking him how far bow is cut to center. If it is center shot cut with that weight broadhead  I would try the 2117 or 2018 cut to 29 in. I prefer the smaller diameter

If it is cut to center then Fletcher has given you some good advice on wood arrows.

It's not that difficult to measure. Put a piece of masking tape on the back above the shelf at the widest point of the limb. Do the same below the shelf. measure the width of the limbs and mark the center on the masking tape pieces. I then lay a flexible ruler across the center marks, bending it over the curve of the front of the grip. Then, just measure from the edge of the ruler to the side plate. A second pair of hands does make this easier.

Sounds terribly complicated now that I read this, but believe me, it isn't.

2018's. cut to 29.5" I shoot these out of all my bows, with a .175 head up frt. My buddy shoots the same arrow with a .145 head out of his 56 pound longbows. 2117 are a good choice to. I just like the smaller diameter of the 2018. rat'

Thanks Tim! I apologize for the mistake. Glad to know that it is cut to center. Thanks everyone for the advice. This bow is so smooth. I can't wait to get appropriate arrows for it!
