Can't decide which Timberghost. Input please.
« on: April 25, 2014, 06:25:00 AM »
Hey guys, need some opinions and input to help me make up my mind. I'm in line for one of Kent's bows. I was originally thinking a 54" static recurve. Then the more I got to looking at his one piece Smoke, the more I started liking it. However I've never shot a one piece r/d, so I'm worried I may not like the lightweight so I'm thinking the hybrid t/d would add some mass. Then there's having to decide riser length on the t/d's. Obviously, I am over thinking and can't make up my mind. I know ultimately it's up to me, but which one would you go with and why?

BTW, all I've ever shot is recurves except for briefly owning a Bear Montana, which I regret selling. So for all you guys who shoot the r/d longbow, why do you like them? Thanks

I haven't yet had the pleasure of shooting one of Kent's take-downs, but I own a 56" Smoke and absolutely LOVE it! The grip is amazingly comfortable and repeatable for me. The lighter mass weight may be my only issue (same with all of my other bows), in that I don't have a steady enough bow arm (yet) to get the consistancy I'd like. Totally MY issue, not the bow's.

I added quite a bit of weight by using a 5 arrow quiver and 600+ gn. arrows, and a string tracker. I can definitely tell the difference in the weight.

The take-down might be the happy medium you're looking for.   :dunno:

One of the things I like about the longbow limbs vs. recurve limbs is the (at least perceived) resistance to string torque by the string hand. Seems like its one less thing that I hafta worry about while trying to perfect my form.

Hope this helps. No matter what you decide, I don't believe you can go wrong with ANY TimberGhost! Kent is a great guy and makes an outstanding product! Good luck on making up your mind, and congrats on a great bow!

What did you go with? I've got a 54"static coming sometime this summer with a pair of SBD strings.

I have both a 56 inch hybrid TD longbow and a 52 inch static TD from Kent. they are both great bows, but I give the nod to the static, it is a short, fast, easy to shoot bow.

I have talked with Kent but haven't finalized my decision. Either a 56" Smoke or a 54" recurve.
